Eat Whole Foods at St Albans Market

Eat Whole Foods market stall

Stopped by The Eat Whole Foods stall at St Albans Market today [1]. Great selection of beans, pulses, nuts, cereals, spices and other whole foods. Good to be able to support a local business.

Some of the items I’ve bought recently from Eat Whole Foods …

Walnuts
A source of protein and Omega-3 fatty acids which are good for brain health and cell membranes.
However, because vegans do not eat fish they are at risk of missing out on some forms of Omega-3

There are three types of Omega-3 : ALA, DHA, EPA

Walnuts and seeds only directly supply ALA.

Algae is a good source of the other two types (It’s where oily fish get their Omega-3). There is now a growing supply of algae-derived products in the market [2]

Pecan Nuts

A soft nut with a great earthy flavour. A good source of protein, unsaturated fat which can lower bad cholesterol levels, and polyphenols which are good for the gut

Engevita [3]
A good source of Vitamin B12 and other important minerals. B12 is normally found in pasture-fed meat which is not part of a vegan diet, so vegans are at risk of B12 deficiency
Engevita is a yeast derivative in the form of nutty/cheesy flakes

Butter Beans
High in protein and fibre. Great for adding to stews

Dark Chocolate Covered Hazelnuts

Exactly what it says on the pack: Delicious and satisfying.
