I’ve recently been trying the vegan-friendly options at some of the local eating places, and have been impressed with what is available. Menus are changing all the time and some of these choices may no longer be offered, but here is a sample of what I found …
The Wicked Lady, Wheathampstead, AL4 8EL
Vegan menu available all day every day
Blackcurrant Mousse
biscuit base, fresh strawberries, blackcurrant compôte
The Rose and Crown, Sandridge, AL4 9DA
Veggie burger with Vegan cheese, tomato and salad
Fruit Salad with Lemon Sorbet
The Potting Shed, Carpenters
Banana Bread and Soya Latte
Abbot’s Kitchen, St Albans Cathedral, AL1 1BY
A Classic Jacket Potato and Beans
The Elephant and Castle, Amwell, AL4 8EA
The eighteenth century pub has a great atmosphere as well as an interesting menu. The Butternut squash, cranberry & red onion tagine with a cauliflower cous cous was an excellent choice.
Marley’s, Wheathampstead, AL4 8BU
Marley’s have recently moved in to the cafe in Station Road (formerly Charlie’s), and are serving a very tasty Falafel and Hummus Salad
Emilio’s Lebanese Street Food, Harpenden, AL5 2RU
https://emiliosfood.co.uk
At the Harpenden Apple Festival Last week I came across Emilio’s “funky Vintage Citroen HY Van”, and tried one of the Vegan Falafel Wraps. Gotta say, this was one of the best wraps I’ve tasted. Substantial and packed full of flavour, made to Emilio’s own recipe with sesame seeds and tahini sauce. Emilio’s are based at 23-25 High Street.
National Trust, Dunstable Downs, LU6 2GY
Great views and vegan dishes on the menu
Beetroot Falafel and Sweet Potato Salad
