Where Do Vegans Get Their Protein From?

So where DO vegans get their protein from?

Because it is often thought that only meat, fish and dairy products can provide all of the protein that the human body needs to survive.

In fact there is no problem. The building blocks of protein are amino acids, and we can obtain all the amino acids we need from plant sources.

For myself, about 50-60 grams of protein daily is sufficient.

It is useful to be able to track protein intake in order to be sure that our diet is meeting our needs. There are several apps available on the web, IOS, and Android phones which can do this

One which I have found very useful is theCronometer App [1].

It enables the user to select items for a menu, and calculates the protein supplied by each item. There is also a breakdown of the protein into quantities of amino acids. Calories, fats, carbohydrates, and other minerals are also calculated in the app.

The screenshot below displays an example day’s menu, and the associated protein. They show that only a few ingredients are required to meet daily requirements.

In practice a day’s diet usually includes many more items than this.
